;
Sequel to reports from
prospective candidates and their parents over paying more than N3,500 for the
2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the Joint admission and
Matriculation Board, JAMB through its spokesperson Dr Fabian Benjamin has made
clarifications concerning the actual cost of the registration.

According to Dr Fabian
Benjamin, the actual cost for registration is N3,500 but candidates have to pay
extra N1,200 which covers the reading text: Sweet Sixteen (N500) and CBT Centre
fee (700) bringing the total amount to N4,700.
He said candidates prior to the
reduction in cost paid N6,200 in total but now pay only 4,700 and that CBT
centres charging above N4,700 at the present were punished.
Some prospective candidates for
the 2019 UTME who were interviewed, confirmed that they actually paid N4,700
for the entire registration process.
A candidate however, said she
was surprised that the fee was increased from N3,500, which she had budgeted
for to a much higher amount. She added that though the manager of the CBT
centre she went to warned that no more money should be given to the computer
operators, yet some of them will first attend to those who had greased their
palms.
