This scholarship award of £10,000 is for selected students from Nigeria and Ghana applying for entry to a postgraduate taught programme at the University starting September 2025.

Eligibility Requirements for the West Africa Postgraduate Chancellor's Scholarship

The eligibility criteria includes: 

1. Nigerians and Ghanaians with at least a 2:1 in their bachelor’s degree, who have an offer and have paid the £3,000 deposit.
2. Have an excellent academic background. Candidates should have or be expecting a 2.1 and above in a bachelor's degree or equivalent.
3. Have received an offer and selected the University of Birmingham as their firm choice for a full-time postgraduate taught programme starting September 2025.
4. Meet the academic conditions of their offer to the programme.
5. Be classed as nationals or domiciled in Nigeria or Ghana.  
6. Be classed by the University as an overseas fee payer for tuition fee purposes and be able to pay the outstanding tuition fees not covered by the scholarship.
7. Have paid their £3,000 deposit by the deadline stated in their offer letter from the Admissions Office.
8. Have sufficient funds to cover the full cost of living at the University of Birmingham, plus any visa/travel expenses associated with studying in the UK.
9. Start their studies at the University in September 2025 (the scholarship award may not be deferred). If a scholarship recipient decides to defer their programme start date to September 2026, they will no longer be eligible as the scholarship is only available for programmes starting in September 2025.
10. Be registered with, and have their postgraduate study application attached to, one of our local representatives listed below in alphabetical order.

This scholarship is for postgraduate candidates only.

Eligible Fields for the West Africa Postgraduate Chancellor's Scholarship

• Arts and Law
• Engineering & Physical Sciences
• Life & Environmental Sciences
• Medicine & Health
• Education, Political Science, Development, Sociology, Social Work, etc.

However, Business School, PhD, MPhil, PGDip/PGCert, and distance-learning programmes are not eligible.

Submit your scholarship application through one of our local representatives by the deadline.

Upon enrolment in September 2025, pay their net tuition fees for the academic year by 1 November, immediately following enrolment.
