COVID-19: Ganduje Appoints BUK's Vice Chancellor As Head of Kano Fund Raising Committee

The Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Professor Muhammad Yahuza Bello, has been appointed by the Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as the Chairman of Fund Raising Committee for Covid-19 in Kano State.
While inaugurating the committee, Dr. Ganduje said “we chose people who are honest, genuine and people with dexterity in resource management.
The Governor explained that the committee will find out donations from organisations on corporate social responsibility basis, from individuals, in order to galvanize the strength and see how to take care of those people who need such support.
He further revealed that, as the state government is turning the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium into Isolation Centre, for the time being, "The richest man in Africa, Alhaji Aliko Dangote has promised to provide the state with 600 bedded facilities as his contribution in this proactive measure against the deadly COVID-19 pandemic."
In his acceptance speech shortly after inauguration, the Chairman of the committee, Professor Bello commended the governor for finding them worthy of being members of this all-important committee, adding that, "We all appreciate government's concern for the plight of the people, caused by this pandemic. It is important for people to also know that, this Committee needs both financial and non-financial assistance from corporate bodies and individuals."
Prof Bello called on people to come forward and assist tremendously, while urging them to consider those who need assistance more than others when the time for distribution of assistance comes, "...we should be our brothers keepers with this intervention or not. This is very important," he urged.
The BUK Vice Chancellor is the Chairman of the Committee, while Tajuddeen Aminu Dantata is the Co-Chair of the Committee. Other members of the Committee include, Senator Barau I. Jibril, representing Kano North, Hon. Alasan Ado Doguwa, Leader, House of Representatives and Aliko Dangote, who is represented by Alhaji Salisu Sambajo.
Others are Abdussamad Isyaka Rabi'u, Chairman BUA Group of Companies, who is represented by Alhaji Rabi’u Isyaka Rabi'u, Abdullahi Abbas, APC Kano Chairman, Nasiru Aliko Koki, Commissioners Murtala Sule Garo of Local Governments, Muhammad Garba of Information, Zahara'u Umar Muhammad of Women Affairs and Muhammad Tahar Adam of Religious Affairs.
So also, Prof. Abdu Salihi, Chairman Kano Integrity Forum, Sheikh Abdullahi Saleh Pakistan, Sheikh Usman Yusuf Makwarari, State Chairman of Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kano Branch, Eze Ndigbo, Oba of Yoruba in Kano, representative of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), among others.
The Committee was given one week to submit its report.
