Nigerian University Students to Hold Nationwide Protest Over ASUU Strike on Feb 28th

;

Students in Nigerian Universities are all set to hold a nationwide protest over ASUU strike on the 28th of February 2022. See the full details below.

One week after it promised to make its impact felt across the country, the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has given the Federal Government a one-week ultimatum to resolve its disagreement with the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) or face a national mass action by Nigerian students across the country.

NANS president, Sunday Asefon, who is currently in Sokoto alongside other NANS executives for the review of the association's constitution made this known today, Feb. 21, shortly after the conference. He said the association has concluded that if the Federal Government and ASUU do not resolve their differences between Feb 21 and Friday, Feb 25, Nigerian students will ''mobilize and give the government the language it understands''.

He disclosed that February 28 has been fixed as the day for national mass action, and every student who is affected by the ongoing ASUU strike is advised to barricade and occupy all Federal roads, the office of the Minister of Education, and the office of the Minister of Labour.

Asefon further accused the Federal Government of playing hide and seek with ASUU since 1999 when they signed the agreement with the academic union, adding that NANS is not going to stand by and watch the government destroy tertiary education in the country.
