The primary goal
of the Programme is to produce graduates with outstanding leadership qualities
and a strong sense of social justice, who will go on to play a leading and
significant roles in business, government, industry and civil society in South
Africa and on the African continent.
UCT aspires to
become a premier academic meeting point between South Africa, the rest of
Africa and the world. University aims to produce graduates whose qualifications
are internationally recognized and locally applicable, underpinned by values of
engaged citizenship and social justice.
Applicants from
outside the home country will often need to meet specific English language/other
language requirements in order to be able to study there.

Level: Scholarship
is available to pursue undergraduate program.
Study
Subject: Scholarship is
awarded in any of the six Faculties of UCT.
Scholarship
Award: The
scholarship offers full financial support to the value of R120,000-00 per year,
intended to cover tuition fees, accommodation, meals and an allowance for
books, stationery, and transport. The scholarship will also entitle the
recipient to a 6-week internship in the USA, Germany or South Africa, the costs
of which will be met by the Programme.
Scholarship
can be taken in South
Africa (Scholars will also be required to spend up to 6 weeks attached to an
approved organization in South Africa, Germany or the USA, gaining exposure to
sound leadership practices).
Eligibility: The following criteria must be
met in order for applicants to be eligible for the scholarship:
The Klaus-Jürgen Bathe Leadership Programme is open to all undergraduate students enrolled in any of the six Faculties of UCT. Students can apply in their first year of study, or after completing first year. However, there must be at least two years of the degree programme remaining at the time of award. The scholarship cannot be held for a period less than two years. Postgraduate students are not eligible. While it is expected that the majority of scholars will be citizens of South Africa, candidates from other sub-Saharan African countries are also welcome to apply. However, a condition for non-South African candidates is that they must demonstrate a commitment to remain in South Africa and serve the country for at least 10 years after their studies. They must also commit to serving their own countries.

Nationality: Students of any nationality may
apply, but preference will be given first to South African citizens and
permanent residents, followed by nationals of other African countries.

Admission Requirement
Entrance
Requirements: Applicants should be academically outstanding. If applying for
the scholarship in the first year of enrolment at UCT, they must have passed
all first-semester courses with an average mark of at least 60%; if applying in
second or subsequent years, they must have a cumulative grade aggregate of at
least 60%.
English Language
Requirements: Applicants from outside the home country will often need to meet
specific English language/other language requirements in order to be able to
study there.

Supporting documents (certified copies and 3 references in sealed envelopes)
must be delivered in one package by post.
