Speaking with newsmen, AYCF
President General, Yerima Shettima described the Buhari-led Federal Government
as “insensitive,” following the refusal to meet the demands of ASUU.
The ongoing ASUU strike which
commenced on November 4, 2018, still lingers due to the inability of the
Federal Government to meet the demands of the aggrieved lecturers.
Reacting, Shettima lamented
that the Buhari-administration has downplayed the educational sector and the
future of the younger generation.
Against this backdrop, the AYCF
President General urged Nigerians to vote against the Buhari in the forthcoming
presidential election.
According to Shettima: “This
government is very insensitive, no matter what, we can’t downplay our
educational sector, we can’t joke with the education of our younger generation
and is exactly what this government is doing and it’s a clear indication that
they don’t wish this country well.
“If this administration is
allowed to continue owing to the fact that they don’t have value for our
educational system then the future of this country will be doomed and as such,
Nigerians are left with a choice which to look for an alternative.
“I can’t imagine that anyone in
his right senses would think of voting this government back into power with
what is in play now. Nigerians must rise up to the occasion and discharge our
civic responsibility by going for an alternative in 2019. This cannot be
allowed to continue, if I see somebody talking of voting this government again
I start imagining if they are normal.
“I think every normal human
being should know that we have a problem in the educational sector and that is
the least area you should joke with, no matter how you try to play politics.
Our educational policy must not be joked with, that’s where the future of this
country lies.”
